School bus workers in Lorain have ended a strike against SBS Transit, although they say they're still not very happy with the contract they got. Marc Beallor, regional director of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees, says workers agreed yesterday to end the stoppage. He says it was time to get drivers, monitors and mechanics back to work. The walkout began April 19th. Beallor says about 50 of 220 union members crossed the picket line, which made it tough to negotiate. Replacement workers also were brought in. Wage issues were decided April 25th, but the union wanted workers to return to their jobs as soon as an agreement was reached. SBS President Ken Van Wagnen says workers have been placed on a hiring list, but with just three weeks of school left he isn't sure how many will be rehired.
