We have a lot to be cheering about this morning: the Reds pulled another win, we're only hours away from the long holiday weekend, tons of events are going on in the tri-state...life is good in Cincinnati!
Meteorologist Katy Morgan is saying that it's going to be a hot one this weekend! Today we can expect partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s and those temperatures won't be going anywhere! Check out Katy and Frank all morning long for your current weather conditions and a complete seven-day forecast.
While you're out on the roadways this weekend, BE SAFE! If your plans include a cocktail (or six), please have a DD or get a cab - it's not worth the risk. Also remember that the "Click-it or Ticket" campaign is in full swing so cops will be out watching!
A 33-year-old missing child's case has finally gotten its big break. Etan Patz went missing from his parent's SoHo apartment in 1979. Now, Pedro Hernandez, a former convenience store clerk, has admitted to luring Patz from his bus stop and choking him to death in his basement. Etan Patz was the first child to ever appear on a milk carton. You can hear more on this story on the FOX19 Morning News at 5 AM.
Lets hear it for our Redlegs as they took the four-game sweep against the Atlanta Braves last night! Rookie catcher Devin Mesoraco capped a series full of homers with his first career grand slam, leading Cincinnati to a 6-3 win. Cross your fingers (and toes!) that our hometown boys keep it up as they take on the Colorado Rockies tonight. First pitch is at 7:10, but you can check out an exclusive story on the Reds by our sports gurus Brian and Joe at 6:30 on FOX19.
If you do plan to head out to the ballpark, you will be able to enjoy free ice, sunscreen, cool water vapor misting stations and other beat-the-heat ammeneties at every home game this season, so no more using the hot weather as an excuse not to come out!
Another way you can beat the heat this weekend is to head up to King's Island for the opening of their new water park, Soak City! Our head-honcho producer, Dan Romito, has compiled a list of the top five water parks in the country so be sure to check it out at 6:30 AM.
If you're staying in town and water parks aren't your thing, what about heading to the nation's longest running culinary arts festival? That's right - the 34th annual Taste of Cincinnati will be going on this weekend. Dan Wells will be live downtown this morning with more information starting at 4:30.
A week and half and eight recipes later, we have finally crowned our 2012 Morning Show Grill-Off champ! Brad Underwood has once again taken the title and is loving every minute of wearing both a crown AND an apron! Maybe we should give him his own cooking segments - I know all of us here in the newsroom would gladly be the daily taste-testers!
This wraps up your morning headlines for this week and I hope you have a great weekend with your friends and family!
I look forward to talking with you on Tuesday :)
