Dumpster diving at the Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Participants will be diving for trash at the Cincinnati Zoo Friday morning.

Approximately 1.5 tons of trash collected over a 24-hour period at the Zoo will be sorted out and placed into one of five categories:

  • Marvin's Gardens organic compost
  • Alternative organic compost
  • Rumpke recyclables
  • Other recyclable/reusable/preventable
  • Landfills

The goal of the dumpster dive is to give the Zoo the distinction to be able to call itself "zero landfill", meaning no waste from the Zoo will go into landfills.
