An officer was struck by a car while chasing a suspect on foot on Tuesday night.

Officers responded to reports of an assault on a female at Eddie's Café in the 9100 block of Reading Rd. just before 11 p.m.

Reading Police Officer Daniel Flottemesch was chasing the suspect, Ricky Gray, 48, on foot when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Reading Road and Mechanic Street.

Officials say the driver that hit Officer Flottemesch stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

Flottemesch remains at University Hospital Tuesday morning in serious condition.

Gray was at large until Wednesday afternoon when he was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of official business and felonious assault.

The chief tells FOX19 the driver of the vehicle that hit Flottemesch will not be charged.

Flottemesch is 30-years-old and has been with the Reading police for two years.
