Cicadas Emerge

Onslaught of summer bugs begins in Cincinnati

The beginning of the Cicada onslaught is under way in Cincinnati. Gene Kritsky, a biology professor at the College of Mount Saint Joseph, says Thursday marked the beginning of a signficant emergence. He says several hundred came from a site that earlier in the week produced just a dozen. Kritsky says more and more will come out every day. Five billion cicadas are expected to emerge in west-central and southwest Ohio.

They've been waiting underground for 17 years.
