NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - A historic building in Newport is re-opening its doors with a new look and a new name.
The Thompson House celebrated its Grand Opening Friday night as Newport's newest music venue in Northern Kentucky's oldest building.
Previously known as the Southgate House, the space was purchased in January 2012 and renovated inside to reflect a more modern and diverse music environment.
"We wanted to keep the historical feel and the quality of the history of the house," says operations partner Kirt Lee.
"We're going to do everything from pop to indie to rock to hard rock to jazz."
On the national registry of historical homes, the Thompson House is named after General John Thompson who was born inside the home in 1860 and invented the tommy gun, the inspiration for the venue's largest stage in the Tommy gun Theatre.
"The fact that it has been used and utilized as a music venue for a number of years I think it helps us to bring music back," says concert promoter George Barnett.
The house features three stages in the Tommy gun Theatre, the Heaven Parlor and the Rock Star Lounge, all geared to feature a different style of music every night.
"We'd love to pack the place we really would, that's always what our goal is, is to make sure we get in as many people as we can," says Barnett.
