The artist known for creating the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington is returning to the southeast Ohio town where she grew up to for her latest project. Maya Lin's earthwork installation "Input" will be dedicated tomorrow at Ohio University in Athens as part of a new park on campus honoring the university's 200th birthday. The sculpture and its title stem from her first experience with the university when she studied computer programming and languages as a high school student. She says the idea was to create a large-scale punch card in the earth. The installation sits on what had been a practice football field. It has 21 elevated or depressed rectangles separated by thin, foot-high concrete walls. Cast into the retaining walls are words written by her poet brother, Tan.
