LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - On Tuesday, the Warren County Sheriff's Office released the details of one of the largest law enforcement patrol efforts that was carried out between May 31 and June 2.
The "Shield Detail" operation lead to nearly 500 traffic charges and 140 drug felony charges.
"There were random stops, there was also active searching for people that we had arrest warrants for," said Warren County Sheriff Larry Sims.
About 29 extra patrol units participated in the operation along Highway 75 and 71 in Warren County, leading to 117 warrant arrests, most of those drug related.
Also, 112 grams of marijuana, 27 grams of heroin and 32 unit doses of prescription drugs were seized.
"Recently in Southwest Ohio we've had troopers pull over people coming back from either Dayton or Cincinnati who are making their daily trip to get heroin," said Capt. Paul Hermes with Ohio State Highway Patrol. "Some of them can't wait and are shooting up as they're driving."
According to the Warren County Drug Task Force, the Mason Inn Hotel in Deerfield Township has been a hotbed of drug activity.
"There is an enormous amount of service demands at this location," said John Burke, Commander of the Drug Task Force. "I don't know that anyone was actually arrested there during this sweep, but certainly some of the offenses occurred there."
Management staff from the hotel says:
"We try to keep any drug activity away from the property by checking proper identification, but we can't prevent people from staying at our hotel. We are in full cooperation with Warren County Law Enforcement."
