CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A babysitter is behind bars in Hamilton County after police say she raped two children in her care a decade ago.
Barbara Brooks, 62, is charged with two counts of rape.
"I'm shocked," neighbor Patty Senger said. "I cannot believe she would do something like that."
"I just can't imagine Barbara doing something like that because she's liked in the neighborhood," Tommie Clark said.
Clark and her fellow neighbors say the Brooks had only moved to their neighborhood a few years ago.
"They seem like awfully nice people so I'm hoping they're wrong," Clark said. "But if they aren't then they need to do what they need to do to her."
According to Hamilton Court documents, the offense occurred over a period of time from 2000 to 2003 at a home on Martin Street. One of the victims was 12 to 15 years old and the other was 7 to 9 years old. The victims are currently 23 and 18.
A Hamilton County Job and Family Services spokesperson confirmed Friday that Brooks was a foster parent for the county from 1996 until 2008. The spokesperson says JFS decided to stop placing kids in her care in 2008 due to a separate allegation of sexual abuse that they were not able to confirm. Soon after, Brooks voluntarily gave up her foster parent certification.
JFS is working to pull all of Brooks' old case files to determine how many children where in her care over the years in order to follow up after the latest alleged victims have come forward.
Barbara Brook's husband did not want to go on camera Friday, but told a FOX19 reporter that his wife is innocent of the charges.
A warrant was issued for Brooks on Wednesday and she was arrested on Thursday.
Brooks was arraigned Friday morning and had her bond set at $100,000.
