(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – In six weeks, Barry Larkin and Ron Santo will be immortalized in Cooperstown during Hall of Fame Weekend.
But visitors to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum can already celebrate the legacy of the Class of 2012 through exhibits honoring the careers of two of the most popular and successful players of all time.
The 2012 Inductees exhibit opened this week at the Hall of Fame, and will remain on display through May 2013 when a new class of inductees is feted in the Museum.
The exhibits, one for each member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2012, are located on the first floor of the Museum as visitors approach the Plaque Gallery.
Some of the artifact highlights contained in the Class of 2012 exhibits include:
Barry Larkin's All-Star Game jerseys from 1990 and 1995
The spikes Larkin wore during the 1990 World Series when he hit .353 to lead his Cincinnati Reds to a sweep against the Oakland A's
Larkin's 1995 National League Most Valuable Player Award
A bat, glove and cap used by Larkin during his 19-year big league career with the Reds
A 1969 Chicago Cubs road jersey worn by Ron Santo
A bat used by Santo in 1969, when he hit 29 home runs and notched a career-best 123 RBI
A batting helmet used by Santo in 1966, featuring one of the first models that incorporated an ear flap
Santo's 1968 Gold Glove Award, his fifth straight at third base
The New Inductee Exhibits are included with regular admission to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
The 2012 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. ET on July 22 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown and will be shown live on MLB Network. More than four dozen Hall of Famers are expected to attend, with the full list of returnees to be announced in early July, to honor the Class of 2012. Admission to the Induction Ceremony is free.
