Pope turns 84
Happy birthday, Pope John Paul. The pontiff is 84 today -- and a Vatican spokesman says they've been flooded with birthday greetings. The Vatican newspaper has addressed its greeting to "the ever young custodian of peace."
John Paul's latest book, "Get Up, Let Us Go," is on sale today. It is a sequel to "Gift and Mystery," an account of the pontiff's early priesthood that was released in 1996. In this new book, the pope talks about his time as bishop and archbishop of Krakow, Poland, and includes a touch of self-criticism. He says he may not have been strict enough.
He also writes that those contesting celibacy have raised the issue of the loneliness for priests, but that he personally has never felt lonely.
