FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - A Fairfield woman says she bit into a razor blade that was inside her Chipotle burrito bowl.
Amanda Crain says she was with her 3-year-old daughter on April 19 at the Chipotle at 5410 Dixie Highway in Fairfield. Upon biting into the food, Crain says she bit into a razor blade and cut her mouth.
"I spit my food back out and realized I had bitten into a razor blade," said Crain. "I had to run to the bathroom and had to soak up blood that was in the roof of my mouth. Needless to say I'm happy I didn't swallow it but when I came back out of the bathroom the lady I worked with over and over again said, 'you need to go tell them that there was a razor blade in your food.'"
After talking with the company, Crain says she discovered that Chipotle uses razor knives to clean their grills. After filling out an incident report and speaking to the Chipotle corporate office, she says Chipotle offered her $100 as long as she would send the razor blade back to the company.
Crain says she isn't after money and wasn't hurt badly, but she had lacerations on the roof of her mouth and she did go to the doctor. Crain is just unhappy with the company's response.
"They contacted me. They wanted to give me a hundred dollars and pretty much have me to send back the razor blade that was in my food that I took home with me," she said. "I took home all the documentation. But they wanted me to send that to them and basically never discuss it or talk about it again."
Chipotle sent FOX19 this statement:
The safety and well-being of our customers is always our highest priority. Despite our best efforts to understand Ms. Crain, she has not provided information to help us review the claims she is making. As in all situations, we are committed to taking the appropriate action.
When we asked Crain about Chipotle's statement she says she doesn't want to send the blade back, so she didn't provide them with any of the documentation. She said she would be happy to fax them a copy of her medical records, but she won't send the razor blade back.
Chipotle officials say they're still a little skeptical because she won't send the blade back, but FOX19 spoke with three witnesses who say the blade was in Crain's food.
