Man hurt in head-on crash near Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Authorities are investigating a traffic accident that happened early Thursday evening near the Cincinnati Zoo.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department Traffic Unit, a Chevrolet Malibu was heading north on Vine street around 5:30 p.m. and crossed the center line, hitting a Chevrolet pickup truck head-on. The Malibu also hit the back of a nearby Pontiac, which was stopped in traffic waiting to turn left onto Glenmary Avenue from Vine Street.

Police say Michael Bailey, the driver of the Malibu, was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in his car. He was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries and is currently listed in stable condition.

Investigators believe speed and impairment were factors in the crash.

A driver and four passengers riding in the pickup truck were all wearing seatbelts and not injured in the crash. The driver of the Pontiac was also wearing a seatbelt and not injured.
