MT. ADAMS, OH (FOX19) - Eden Park will be celebrating all weekend long with the 25th annual Juneteenth Festival.
The two-day event commemorates the anniversary to the end of slavery, and celebrates African American culture. The festival will feature historical reenactments and exhibits, craft demonstrations and more.
"It actually commemorates the date June 19, 1865 when the last slaves under the confederacy were freed in Galveston, TX," said Lydia Morgan, event organizer.
The celebration first began in Texas, honoring 'Emancipation Day' on June 19th and has since spread all over the United States.
Juneteenth Festival will take place Saturday, noon until 9 p.m. and Sunday, 2:30 to 6 p.m. It is a non-profit event, staffed entirely by volunteers.
