Thousands volunteer to cleanup the Ohio River

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Thousands of volunteers picked up trash and debris along 1,800 miles of riverbank on Saturday.

More than 15,000 volunteers, representing six states and 72 counties, helped to cleanup during the 23rd annual Ohio River Sweep.

"Really does make you aware of some people's habits of not taking care of the river, the environment and really makes you want to help more and spread the word of not littering and keeping everything clean," said Matt Wesley, a volunteer.

The sweep took place at various locations from 9 a.m. to noon.
