Cincinnati, OH (FOX19) - The Ohio State University announced Wednesday the Buckeyes Spring football game may be played at Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium in 2013. Planned renovations at Ohio Stadium will force the game to move to an alternate location.
"We are very appreciative to be in discussions with the Cincinnati Bengals," Ohio State Director of Athletics Gene Smith said. "We look forward to continuing our discussions and look forward to an opportunity to bring the Buckeyes into Cincinnati and closer to our Southern Ohio fans."
The Bengals confirm the discussions but stress no deal is in place. Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said, "We were advised in advance of OSU's release, and of their reasons for sending it out today, and we don't take issue with any of it. But it's just standard policy on our end that we wouldn't do our own release unless negotiations were complete, and as Gene Smith has noted, that is not yet the case."
The Buckeyes spring game has drawn upwards of 90,000 fans. More than 81,000 turned out for the 2011 game. Paul Brown Stadium has a capacity of 65,535.
