Cincinnati, OH (FOX19) - Home plate umpire Jerry Layne will miss the rest of the Reds series against the Minnesota Twins but should be OK. Layne left Friday's game in the fourth inning after being hit in the head by the barrel of Devin Mesoraco's broken bat.
Layne lay face down on the infield grass while team trainers examined him. He eventually walked off the field and was taken to Cincinnati's Good Samaritan hospital. Director of Major League Baseball Umpires Randy Marsh said test results were normal but he'll be held out for precautionary reasons.
