Final steel beam to be placed at Mercy West

Construction crews will celebrate a major milestone at the new Mercy Health West Hospital.

The final steel beam, signed by workers, hospital staff and local officials, will be lifted into place during a topping off ceremony at 11:15 a.m., which will complete the $180 million project that is set to open in 2013.

When complete, the state of art advanced care facility will include 250 bedrooms, private care rooms, expanded medical capabilities for the West Side, a heart center with an open heart surgery program and a family birth center.

Green Township and Mercy will also help improve traffic by expanding North Bend Road to four lanes between Boomer and Kleeman before the hospital opens.
