WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -

The 2012 USA Triathlon Junior and Youth National Championship will be held at the Voice of America Park in West, Chester, Ohio on Aug. 11-12.

The nation's top up-and-coming triathletes, ages 7-19, will compete at age-appropriate distances in multiple races over the course of the two-day event.

The draft-legal Youth Elite (ages 13-15) and the Junior Elite (ages 16-19) National Championships will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11. The Youth National Championships for ages 7-15 as well as the draft-legal mixed team relay for ages 13-19 will be held Sunday, Aug. 12.

The event is being brought to the area by USA Triathlon and the Butler County Visitors Bureau, whose bid to host the event was chosen over many other hopeful US cities.

"USA Triathlon is excited to bring the Junior and Youth National Championship to West Chester," said Jeff Dyrek, USA Triathlon National Events Director. "This event offers a race for athletes ranging from first-time youth triathletes to the nation's future Olympic hopefuls. We've experienced record participation numbers in recent years and hope to achieve the same in Ohio."

Nearly 600 triathletes and their families are expected to attend the weekend event, and their estimated economic impact of $700,000 is expected to be felt across Butler County in hotels, restaurants, attractions, and shopping venues.

"Being chosen to host this event further illustrates Butler County as a premier youth sporting event destination," said Jason Williams, BCVB Senior Sports Sales Manager.
