WALTON, KY (FOX19) -

A Boone County Sheriff's Deputy rescued a wheelchair-bound man from his burning home on Wednesday morning.

Deputy Greg Tanner, 46, a 13-year veteran deputy, responded to a mobile home in the 10000 block of Calle Margarette Drive in Walton at about 6:30 a.m. Once there, an occupant of the home told Tanner that her wheelchair-bound husband was in his bedroom.

Tanner kicked in the front door and crawled down the smoke-filled hallway to the bedroom where and forced entry into the bedroom. Through the smoke and heat, Tanner saw the man's ankle on the floor. He grabbed it and was able to drag him out of the home.

Tanner and the man, Michael Mallory, 66, were both transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Tanner was treated and released. Mallory's condition is unknown.
