A 14-year-old boy was shot in the ear after investigators say he ran into a Clinton County Sheriff's cruiser.

Clinton County Sheriff Ralph D. Fizer Jr. says dispatchers received several reports of an erratic driver who was hitting parked cars and almost hitting pedestrians.

Several sheriff's deputies were in the area performing a drug round up and spotted the driver. After a short chase, the driver crashed on Champlin Road and hit a sheriff's cruiser.

A deputy ordered the driver to shut off the engine, but he instead put in drive. The deputy fired through the windshield, grazing the teen in the ear.

The teen was taken to the hospital, but has been treated and released and is back in police custody. His name has not been released.
