Duke offers tips to save during hot temps

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

With heat advisories set in the Tri-State, Duke Energy has a few tips to save money and save yourself from the already hot, hot, hot temperatures.

  • Keep doors closed. By doing so, and also sealing leaks around windows and doors, customers can save 10% annually on energy bills.
  • Keep curtains and blinds shut during the day. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this step can reduce heat in your home by 45%.
  • Turn up the thermostat. Only bumping up the thermostat by one or two degrees can save costs and still feel comfortable.
  • Microwave instead of oven. This step cuts down on heat in the kitchen, and uses 70% less energy.
