4-alarm fire destroys Lower Price Hill building

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Fire crews were called to a reported three-alarm fire in Lower Price Hill late Thursday evening.

The vacant building is located near the 8th Street Viaduct, on the corner of Neave and St. Michael Street.

Initial arriving units reported a working fire in a four story brick building with heavy smoke and fire showing from the third and fourth floors of the building.

Due to the proximity of the exposure buildings a second alarm was requested immediately.

The initial Incident Commander determined that the building was too involved in fire and decided to fight this stubborn fire from a defensive position. Low water pressures in the area along with the air temperature still in the mid 80's at the time of the fire resulted in this fire escalating to a four alarms.

It took firefighters approximately 2 hours to bring this fire under control.

The structure is a total loss and firefighters are still on the scene assisting the Building Department as this structure is being torn down.

Damage is estimated at $30,000 for the fire building and another $10,000 to an exposure building.

No one was hurt. The cause is still under investigation.
