Police release video of officers beating suspect

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -

The West Chester Police Department has released a video of officers beating a suspect who failed to comply with orders.

Officers were called to the Win, Place or Show bar on May 6 in reference to a large bar fight.

When officers arrived on the scene, they say one of the men involved in the fight, Jeremy Lewis, 29, was highly intoxicated and combative and failed to comply with officers' orders.

Officers tried to gain control of Lewis using batons and chemical irritants. He was placed under arrest, refused medical treatment, and was transported to jail.

Lewis was charged with assault, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Those charges have since been dropped.

An independent review showed officers took reasonable steps to gain control of the suspect.
