Hundreds of homes evacuated near Georgia chemical warehouse fire
A cloud of smoke stretches for miles and hundreds of homes have been evacuated near a chemical warehouse fire in Conyers, Georgia, not far from Atlanta. The huge fire broke out at about five a-m at the warehouse owned by BioLab, which makes chemicals for swimming pools and cleaning products. It's forced the temporary closure of Interstate 20. A hospital reports treating at least two people who were having trouble breathing or suffering from irritation from the chlorine and other chemicals. A spokesman for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency notes that chlorine is an irritant, and is dangerous -- especially to people with respiratory conditions. Multiple explosions could be seen and heard at the warehouse, as the fire spread. Rockdale County fire officials say it's now contained.
