Amputees to take part in 600 mile bicycle ride

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) -

Ready Ride 2012 is rolling through the Midwest raising awareness and money to send amputee children to summer camp in Warren County.

Led by Scott Lane, Jon Jones and Mike Clark, a group of a dozen men and woman embark on bicycle journey that will take them as far west as Elkhart, Indiana and north as Fremont, Ohio. The ride is in its second year and is the culmination of life changing journey for Lane.

In 2010, Lane lost his leg after being in accident where an impaired driver hit him while he was riding his motorcycle. Jon Jones and Mike Clark are also recent amputees and met Lane in a support group where they formed the Ready Ride.

Money raised by Ready Ride goes to the annual Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp at Camp Joy in Clarksville Ohio. Paddy Rossbach helps more than 500 children from around the country achieve activities like swimming, fishing and canoeing, dancing, archery, basketball, wall-climbing and arts and crafts.

In its first year, Lane and seven others biked over 700 miles to Kansas City.  This year 16 amputees and non amputees will ride through more 600 miles of road.
