LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of Karen Sypher, the woman who tried to extort millions of dollars, a house and a car from University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino.

In 2010, a jury convicted Sypher of extortion, lying to the FBI and retaliation against a witness. Prosecutors said she sought the money and other items from Pitino in exchange for her silence about their sexual encounter inside a Louisville restaurant.

Sypher is serving a seven-year sentence at a federal prison in Marianna, FL.
