MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

The sky in Middletown will soon be filled with a special kind of skydiver and dozens of hot air balloons.

Several wounded veterans and families of local fallen soldiers will kick off the MidUSA Ohio Challenge Balloon Festival on Thursday, July 12th.

Army Specialist Nick Mapson and retired Army Captain James McCormick II, among others, will tandem skydive with the Team Fastrax Skydivers at the Middletown Regional Airport, which is located at the base of Start Skydiving. Once safely landed on the ground, the veterans and families will soar back into the sky aboard hot air balloons.

The veterans and families will jump at 6 p.m., and the public is invited to the airport to show support.

Attendees can enter the event on Thursday and throughout the weekend at 1800 Germantown Road, Middletown, Ohio.

The MidUSA Ohio Challenge is celebrating their 10th anniversary, running from July 13-15th at Smith Park, near to the airport. The event entails a hot air balloon competition, bringing some of the best pilots to Middletown, Ohio.
