CANTON, OH (WOIO) -
The Stark County Sheriff Department and Canton Police have located the vehicle and suspect involved in a fatal hit-skip outside of the Stark County Jail early Saturday morning.
Canton Police responded to the 3800 block of State Route 62 eastbound near the Stark County Jail for a victim of a hit-skip accident around 6 a.m. Officers arrived on scene and located Heather K. Smith, 29, who had died from injuries.
After reviewing video from the Stark County Jail and Sheriff's Department, deputies and Canton Police began searching for a black SUV that fled eastbound along SR 62.
Saturday afternoon, officials located and arrested one person in connection with the hit-skip. The suspect has not been identified to the public at this time.
Heather K. Smith was arrested for theft and passing bad checks Friday and had just been released from the Stark County Jail on bond Saturday morning around 1:15 a.m. Smith did not have a ride, so she began walking. That's when the hit-kip occurred.
