Mall Rapist

Police have suspect in jail in Wisconsin and Illinois mall rapes

Police in Madison, Wisconsin, believe a man already behind bars is a serial rapist responsible for at least two dozen attacks. Investigators say the suspect is linked by DNA evidence to sexual assaults in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. His identity -- which hasn't been released -- was given to Madison police by the FBI.

A Madison police official says the suspect is being held on unrelated charges. Police began notifying the public about a possible serial rapist in the winter of 2000. Profilers and forensic artists put out a composite sketch of a white man with dark blond hair between 25 and 35-years old. The attacker preyed on mall workers who were alone in stores or in parking lots.
