In warning the nation about a possible al-Qaida attack, Attorney General John Ashcroft is verbally sketching a portrait of the would-be attackers.
Ashcroft says recent intelligence shows the "ideal al-Qaida operative" is young possibly in his or her 20s or early 30s. He also says operatives might be traveling with families, so as not to draw unwanted attention to themselves. Al-Qaida recruiters, according to Ashcroft, have been looking for people who can pass themselves off as European to better blend in.
Ashcroft warns al-Qaida operatives may already be in the United States, planning an attack although he says the US has no details of a plan.
