A 40-year-old man died Friday night after a devastating single-vehicle crash on Columbia Parkway in Columbus-Tusculum.

The SUV flipped and slammed into a utility pole on Columbia Parkway between Delta and Stanley, coming to rest across the street from the Starbucks store.  The impact fractured the pole.

Witnesses in the busy business district rushed to help the driver, but Cincinnati Police say he died at University Hospital shortly not long after the crash.

Police say the man who died is 40-year-old David Corson, who had been living in Cleveland until recently but appears to have moved to Clermont County.

A witness told FOX19 that two vehicles, what appeared to be an older silver Mercury Marquis, followed by the SUV that crashed, passed him on Columbia Parkway at about 80 miles per hour, going by so fast the breeze from the vehicles shook his car.  He said the first car braked as it crossed Delta, but he never saw the brake lights on the SUV before it crashed.

Other witnesses gave police a similar description of the second vehicle.

The police said they planned to release more details on Saturday morning.
