Jimmie Johnson will lead the field to the green flag to begin NASCAR's longest race.
Johnson edged Ryan Newman on the last lap of Thursday's Bud Pole Qualifying session to earn the top starting spot for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It's Johnson's first Bud Pole since last October.
Johnson toured the 1.5-mile speedway in 28.869 seconds at a speed of 187.052 mph. The effort was good enough to break the track record.
Newman clocked in at 28.885/186.948. Gordon will start third after clocking in at 28.889/186.922.
