LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE/FOX19) – A northern Kentucky girl has died after a crash on Interstate 265 in Louisville.
Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Rita Taylor said Grace George, 10, died at 8:28 Wednesday morning, July 11, at Kosair Children's Hospital of multiple traumatic injuries suffered in the accident.
MetroSafe said the accident happened between Old Henry and La Grange Road around 6:15 Tuesday evening and involved three vehicles.
Police said traffic had come to a stop I-265, also known as the Gene Snyder, south when a driver of a black Toyota pickup truck did not see the stopped traffic.
According to police, the truck then hit the back of a Dodge Caravan that was carrying six people, five kids and one adult, from the same family. The impact caused the van to hit a white Toyota car, spin several times, and end up in the median.
Police said the male driver of the truck went to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening serious injuries. The driver of the van also went to U of L Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
They said the five children in the van were transported to Kosair Children's Hospital. Grace suffered injuries that she was not able to survive, while the other four were expected to be treated and released.
They also said the driver of the car was transported to U of L Hospital with non-life threatening, but serious injuries.
There is no word on what caused the accident.
Grace was going to be a fifth grader at R.C. Hinsdale Elementary. She is survived by her parents, father Duggin George (Kim) and mother Kimberly Moats (Josh), and siblings Taylor Jordan George, Grant Joseph George, Faith Brooke George, and Eyden Rose Moats, all of Edgewood.
Her visitation is Tuesday night, July 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Linneman Funeral Home in Erlanger. Her funeral is Wednesday morning at Lakeside Christian Church.
