Power outages sweep the Tri-State after storms

Posted: Updated:

Following Wednesday's storms, more than 70,000 customers in central and southwest Ohio found themselves without power.

Duke Energy here in southwest Ohio reported more than 24,000 customers with outages in several counties near Cincinnati early Thursday morning. That number was down to 2,859 by Thursday afternoon.

By Thursday evening, just a few counties in southwest Ohio were still affected, with only 543 total outages reported.

Customers lost power due to wind and lightning hitting transformers.

The new outages come just weeks after a set of powerful storms knocked out electricity for hundreds of thousands of customers facing a heat wave across the state.
