Challengers beat the heat in balloon toss

Participants in a water balloon competition downtown on Friday had no problem beating the heat.

The Freaky Friday Water Balloon Toss was free and open to the public, beginning at noon. Several challengers stepped up to the plate to test their 'soft hands'.

The event was the traditional distance challenge, requiring players to stand in two parallel lines, tossing the balloon back and forth. The longer partners last, the farther they had to step apart. A team's broken balloon means game over.

With hot temperatures, many probably didn't mind 'losing'.

Events will continue Friday evening with the Square's MidPoint Indie Summer Series, featuring Ha Ha Tonka and The Ridges from 7-11 p.m.
