Six students recognized for their academic achievements and community service; North Charleston Law Firm donates $72,000 in scholarships since 2006.
North Charleston, SC (PRWEB) July 24, 2012
Joye Law Firm, a North Charleston-based law firm, recently awarded six graduating seniors from South Carolina high schools with $2,000 scholarships to assist them with college expenses. Since the program’s inception in 2006, Joye Law Firm has given away more than $72,000 in scholarship funds. The professionals at Joye Law Firm wish to congratulate this year's recipients: Brittney Cumbee, Shaakira Brown, Maisa Amireh, Savannah Weber, SanQuette Holmes, and Tyler Davidson.
“We are pleased to recognize these students for their academic achievements and community service,” said Ken Harrell, managing partner at Joye Law Firm. “These students have shown that they truly care for the safety of others, and we know their futures will continue to be bright and full of success. We are excited to help them along this path.”
The winning students were chosen based on their school activities, positions of leadership, special honors and awards, community involvement, academic performance, and academic and professional pursuits. Candidates also wrote essays explaining how to influence their friends not to drive under the influence of alcohol. Students were personally presented with their awards followed by a dinner hosted by Joye Law Firm.
Brittney Cumbee – Georgetown High School
Brittney will be attending Francis Marion University and she plans to major in nursing and hopes to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. She is grateful for the scholarship and said, “The scholarship money is a sound investment towards my future that will affect my community, country, and world long after I have completed my education.”
Savannah Weber – Summerville High School
Savannah plans to focus on nutritional science at the University of South Carolina. She said, “I know, through proper diet and exercise, people in our country can become healthy and live longer, and I want to be a part of that. The scholarship money from Joye Law Firm has helped put me on that path. Without the money, I would not be able to accomplish my dreams of also being a first generation college student.”
Maisa Amireh – Hanahan High School
Attending the Honors College at the College of Charleston, Maisa plans to major in biology and hopes to pursue a career in the medical field, specializing in pediatric ophthalmology.
Shaakira Brown – Goose Creek High School
Shaakira is pursuing a degree in business administration at Wofford College. She plans to eventually complete her doctorate in business law. “At the early age of four, I was a curious spectator as I observed my father’s involvement as an officer in courtroom proceedings,” Shaakira said. “These experiences resonated with me, perhaps the very kindling of my strong interest in the legal field today. I anticipate my future in the concentration of business law with much ambition and enthusiasm.”
SanQuette Holmes – Burke High School
SanQuette plans to major in political science with a focus on becoming an attorney with her own practice. She will be attending Francis Marion University.
Tyler Davidson – Socastee High School
Tyler plans on pursuing a degree in business/law and will be attending the College of Charleston.
