MASON, OH (FOX19) - Kings Island announced Friday they plan to remove the Son of Beast roller coaster to make room for future park expansion.

Back in 2006, 27 people were injured on the ride after a bump stopped the car on its track.

After that incident, a major loop was removed from the ride.

An engineer with the Department of Agriculture found structural problems that put riders' safety at risk.

The ride was shut down in May of 2009 after a woman claimed she was injured during a ride.

She didn't report the injury until more than two weeks later.

The incident report shows that the woman had to be admitted to a hospital's intensive care unit for a burst blood vessel in her brain.

The dismantling of the ride, which last operated in 2009, will begin later this summer.
