UNION TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Jungle Jim's International Market will be hosting a job fair this week for its new Eastgate location.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Union Township Civic Center located at 4350 Aicholtz Road.
More than 3000 people stood in line for up to three hours for an interview.
Marc Levey from Blue Ash says despite all the competition he says he has a good shot at getting hired. "I could be an asset to their company definitely...all my experience in the food business.
The large number of applicants is testament to the current state of the job market. Jesse Couch says he drove all the way from Florence, KY to look for work. "Its really hard to find anything good out there these days so I'm taking every opportunity I can to find something decent."
Nineteen year old Chelsea Wirthlin says she has good reasons for wanting to work at Jungle Jim's. "They have wonderful products. Its a good place to work...good benefits."
Heather Witherby was hired on the spot and says she's excited. "I feel wonderful. I've been wanting to get a job for the longest time."
Terra Schaeffer who owns SweetFrog frozen yogurt nearby says she's looking forward to Jungle Jim's opening. "All the different kinds of people that will come to the area and be drawn by Jungle Jim's and so we just think it will be awesome."
NutriShop owner Quinn Carlson says he's excited to have Jungle Jim's as a neighbor. "I really think with Jungle Jim's coming in its going to revitalize the area, bring more traffic in so I see it as a very positive thing."
Brian McGowan with Muenchen's furniture says he's looking forward to more foot traffic. "We're looking forward to having them in here. I understand he's going to bring 80-thousand people a week to the area so we're thrilled.
The grocer is looking to fill between 300 and 400 positions at the new location, which is scheduled to open Sept. 25.
The store is hiring in 18 different departments, including seafood, deli, bakery, produce, cashiers, security and floral.
Both experienced and inexperienced applicants are encouraged to attend, but evening and weekend availability is required.
Those interested should bring a completed application to the job fair.
Officials say the new Eastgate location will be slightly larger than the first Jungle Jim's in Fairfield.
