Car into lake briefly shuts down I-71

Five people were taken to the hospital after a car crashed into a lake late Tuesday night in Warren County.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. around the 40 mile marker.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Bridget Shelley, 47, of Ashland, Ohio, was driving a Mazda Millennia northbound on I-71 when she traveled off the left side of the roadway and in to the median. The backseat passenger, Anthony Deloach, 37, of Mansfield, noticed Shelley was slouched over the wheel, so he jerked the steering wheel to the right to avoid going into the southbound lanes.

The vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree and fence before coming to rest in a lake. The vehicle was partially submerged.

Shelley, Deloach and Shelly's 7-year-old son were taken to Bethesda Arrow Springs hospital for minor injuries. The front passenger, Angel Deloach, 35, of Mansfield and another rear passenger, Teen Lootens, 30, of Mansfield, were transported to Miami Valley Hospital via Care Flight with serious but not life threatening injuries.

No alcohol or drugs are believed to be involved. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

NB I-71 was closed for about 50 minutes. The crash remains under investigation.
