Neighborhood celebrates back to school carnival

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - With school start dates quickly approaching, a local outreach ministry is making sure students go back to school with a full mind and a full backpack.

Project Nehemiah, an outreach ministry of the Church of the Living God, hosted its Seventh Annual Neighborhood Back2School Carnival Saturday.

The free carnival will provide school-age children with back to school necessities and health and safety education. In order to receive a bag of back to school supplies, attendees must complete the "Obstacle Course of Health and Safety." The obstacle course features free educational games that teach children about healthy living, police and fire safety, and tips for being a successful student.

Carnival highlights include booths set up by  Avondale Library, Hamilton County Parks, American Red Cross and the Cincinnati Police Department. The event is expected to draw over 800 children from Avondale and the surrounding communities.
