A.J. Burnett continued his mastery of the Reds as Pittsburgh won the finale of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park Sunday.
Burnett, now 3-0 this season against Cincinnati, at one point retired 18 straight batters and pitched into the 9th inning.
Homer Bailey (9-7) took the loss after allowing nine hits and four runs as the Pirates pulled within 4 1/2 games of the Reds in the NL central.
Pittsburgh's Starling Marte hit a tie-breaking two-run triple to give the Pirates a 4-2 lead in the 4th inning in the eventual 6-2 final.
Drew Stubbs hit his 14th home run this season. The Reds now start a road trip in Milwaukee.
