After receiving a beating from a female clerk at a Midlands Family Dollar store, a man who attempted to rob the business is wanted by law enforcement.
Surveillance cameras caught the altercation on video and deputies hope you recognize the robber.
According to Richland County Leon Lott, the incident happened inside the Family Dollar at 1735 Decker Blvd. just before 9 a.m. on July 28.
The suspect was paying for a pack of Oreo's when he reached over the counter as the clerk was placing his money into the register.
"As soon as my drawer opened, I [saw] him lean a little bit," said Chanel Thomas. "So I kind of prepared myself for it."
Thomas, who has been manager of the store since June, said she shut the register on his fingers as he tried to grab some money.
The robber pushed the drawer back at Thomas and her instincts kicked in. "I just started wailing at the back of his head," said Thomas. "I just knew I had to get him out."
After grabbing a little over $30, the robber eventually left the store, but not before Thomas hit him in the head with the very Oreo's he was trying to buy.
Thomas believes the man thought she was an easy target for a robbery. "But he had another thing coming when he tried," she said. "No nails broken, didn't even break a sweat."
Thomas says the store now has at least two employees working at all times.
Lott described the suspect as a black male, approximately 6' tall, with a thin build, wearing khaki shorts, a white T-shirt, and light colored ball cap.
He is wanted for robbery and simple assault.
Sheriff Lott is asking for assistance in identifying the man. To receive up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
