(RNN) – The next time your family is at the fair and your child complains about the sign that says "You must be this tall to ride," think about a family in Ohio that totally bypassed that.
The young son of Jon and Natasha Cain is the star of a viral video that shows what happens when people decide to ignore the rules of convention for the happiness of their kids.
Is building a roller coaster from wood, concrete and PVC pipe in your backyard safe? Debatable.
Is it bound to win you the undying affection of your elated child? Absolutely.
The Lancaster, OH, couple spared no effort and expense in giving their son the most thrilling 12-second riding experience in the history of questionable ideas that turned out really cool.
"We thought it would cost about $300," Natasha Cain told Yahoo! News. "But you can't have a half-built roller coaster."
You said it, Natasha. If you're going to throw your kid in the middle of a really weird experiment, you might as well go all out.
The Cains, in fact, spent more than twice that on their little venture. Is anyone else feeling an offer from a prominent engineering firm coming?
Maybe not, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking this is all that rare.
Kids make spaceships, tanks, mansions and all other types of neat stuff out of junk lying around the yard every day. It only makes sense their parents, in all their wisdom and maturity, can take that creativity to the next level.
Popular Mechanics gives out prizes to people who create brilliant inventions on a whim. They call it rewarding everyday genius, but you might call it what happens when ordinary people have way too much time and access to scrap materials.
Either way, no kid on the playground should dare to venture into the "my dad is cooler than yours" argument because, for the moment, Jon Cain trumps them all.
