CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The City of Cincinnati began construction on improvements to Riverside Drive on Friday. The street is being resurfaced between St. Andrews Street and Congress Avenue, and will also receive a new lane configuration.
The new configuration will include a traffic lane in each direction, a bicycle lane on both sides of the street and 24 hour parking on the south side of the street. It will also provide shortened crossing distances for pedestrians, an additional buffer space between moving vehicles and the sidewalk, and extra space between the curb and vehicle traffic lane to enable easier right turns. City officials believe that the improvements will calm traffic and improve safety for cyclist, pedestrians, and drivers alike.
The project originated in early 2010 based on request from the East End Area Council and bicycle advocacy groups.
