The Associated Press has reported that Dolphins receiver and former Cincinnati Bengal Chad Johnson was released from jail Sunday on $2,500 bond, a day after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their Florida home.

Johnson, 34, had been charged with domestic violence. Broward County jail officials said he was released Sunday afternoon.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie, Florida.

Davie Police tell FOX19 the argument started when his wife Evelyn Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms in the car while the couple was returning home from dinner at a restaurant.

Lozada told police that when they arrived home but were still in the car, Johnson head-butted her.  Johnson told police that his wife leaned in toward him and they both butted heads.  Lozada had a laceration to her forehead and was taken to the hospital.

Johnson was taken to the police station and questioned, and charged with Domestic Violence-(Simple Battery).  He was sent to the Broward County Jail, and will be required to stay in jail until he appears before a judge.  Police weren't sure if that would happen Sunday or Monday.

Lozada and Johnson, who just reverted to using that last name after several years as Chad Ochocinco, were married in Mexico five weeks ago. Police say Johnson has lived at the home in Davie for some time.
