BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A Baton Rouge woman was attacked at knife-point last week as she waited to get on a bus to go to work. The attack took place in the 5600 block of Plank Road around 5 a.m. Thursday. Dorothy Barber, 88, was hit and knocked down during an armed robbery as a knife wielding thief stole the $15 she had in her purse.
"This man was on me, on my back," explained Ms. Barber. "I could almost feel his breath on me."
"Then he says give me your money, give me your money, give me your money, give me your pocket-book and then he hit me and knocked me down...wrestling with me for my pocketbook."
The suspect is described as a 20-year-old black man who is about six feet tall.
Police have no suspects yet. "It's still early in the investigation and sometimes it takes a little time for these to pan out," says Baton Rouge Police officer Thomas Stubbs
But Dorothy Barber is still upset. "I'm still nervous, I'm still upset, and it's still just the thought of somebody being that close to you," says Barber. "It's nasty; it's a nasty feeling for someone to do something like that to you."
Ms. Barber hasn't missed a day of work; she has been at the same job for 50 years, except when she was in the hospital. Physically she he is all of about 5 feet maybe 1 inch tall and 95 pounds soaking wet, but she says had her assailant not had a knife on her...it would have been game on.
"Yes he had a knife and that's why I didn't try and fight him for my pocket book," says Barber, "because I would have fought him for my money. I would have fought him. I would have did it believe me I would have did it."
