Xavier and Miami University students back on campus
Miami students on the first day of class last fall
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Xavier University and Miami University welcome their respective classes of 2016 on Thursday.
Some Xavier freshman will begin moving in with the help of the Xavier Move Crew made up of upper classmen.
Xavier is offering an early move-in day to help reduce some of the congestion that will take place Friday when most students move in. More than 1,000 women and men make up this year's freshman class.
Classes at Xavier begin on Monday, Aug. 20.
Miami University anticipates a record number of about 3,725 first year students. Unlike Xavier, which is made up mostly of out of state students, 61 percent of the new class is from Ohio.
They'll be welcomed Thursday by Miami President David Hodge and his wife, Valerie, as well as staff and upper classmen.
Miami also begins to finalize the "Miami Makeover," as construction continues on campus. Upgrades include four new residence halls and two dining service facilities. Three of the dorms have geothermal heating and cooling. The staff is also bigger, adding 60 new faculty members and 185 new class sections to the schedule. Class begins on Aug. 20 at 8 a.m.
