Baby-Life Support

Appeals court upholds ruling to take baby off life support:

A state appeals court has upheld a decision that a comotose seventh-month-old boy may be removed from life support despite his parents' objections.  The Ninth Ohio District Court of Appeals today rejected Arica Heimlich and Matthew Stein's request that it to overturn an April ruling that gave decision-making power to a guardian.

Doctors at Akron Children's Hospital say the parents can't act in Aiden's best interests because criminal charges could be filed if the boy dies. The guardian has said she would follow doctor's recommendation to take the Mansfield boy off life support.  The three-judge panel unanimously ruled that a probate court judge correctly ruled that Aiden's injuries resulted from being shaken.

The guardian's lawyers say Aiden would be removed from life support at noon Friday.
