KENTON COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -
For some Kenton County school children, the first week of school included another first, the first time trying edamame. Edamame is not something you would normally see on a school lunch menu, it's a soybean usually boiled or steamed in its pod. It is a common cuisine in Japan, China, and Hawaii.
The children were shown a demonstration on how to eat the soybeans during the morning announcements, and it was served at lunch. The kids seemed to enjoy the new menu item. The school district has been encouraging the students, with incentives like stickers, to try new vegetables with programs like "eating the alphabet," or "try it Tuesdays."
